Kitchen Dreams…Planning Nightmares

Kitchen Dreams…Planning Nightmares

Tonight the hubby and I are sitting down to layout and plan the kitchen. We have picked out an Ikea kitchen per my request. I am super excited about the white cabinets with lots of room for organizing and wine bottles; he is super excited about swedish meatballs and teeny-tiny allen wrenches. The planning and layout you do all on-line; it is in 3D and can be user friendly once you know what you are doing. Once the plans are done you save it in your Ikea account, head to the store, and share it with one of their “Kitchen Experts”.  They look it over and either give you the thumbs up, which means they can then help you order all of the flat-packed materials you will need from their little kiosk, or they give you a thumbs down. Thumbs down means you then have head down to Smaland to see if you can extend your 4-year olds play time so that you and your significant other can have a quiet domestic dispute over the changes that need to be made in the presence of a “Kitchen Expert”. We are hoping to avoid being “that couple” in the kitchen section and perfect our plans tonight. I will let you know how we make out. We are becoming quite skilled in the art of compromise throughout this renovation process. Check out the pictures below to see our inspiration (these were taken on my phone in Ikea so the quality is pretty poor). What do you think a “dream kitchen” should have?

  1. I agree with the island. I am considering putting one in at my house, too, although we would be very tight on space. I have a second wall oven that is VERY handy at holidays, so I highly recommend. When not in use, it is full of baking stuff and baby wipes (I buy in bulk). I used to put paper towels in it (again, I buy in bulk) but decided that I’m really tempting fate by putting something so flammable in there. Good luck – I hope your plan gets a thumbs-up at Ikea!

    • You have a lot of work ahead of you but how exciting!! I see in my minds eye a middle island griddle with fresh herbs drying overhead OR a fire place that actually can be cooked on with baking areas on the side? When I hit the Mega Millions I will let you know (SMILE). I also see (don’t you love it!) french doors in the master bedroom that leads to an outside deck with the capacity for some real nice times between yourselves!! You know me, …

      • Maria I am so excited about the double ovens-my sister and I do a huge marathon Christmas bake every year and make at least 8 different kinds. The hubby’s mom stores stuff in her oven (she only has a single) and I cooked some things that were not meant to be cooked.

      • Thanks Cindy-I love the idea of a fire place you can cook in-I found a DIY pizza oven for outside I want to try to make.

  2. I agree with the island and it is so nice to have extra counter space. So jealous and can’t wait to see the finished project!

  3. Appreciating the time and energy you put into your blog and
in depth information you present. It’s good to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the
same out of date rehashed material. Great read! I’ve saved
your site and I’m including your RSS feeds to my Google account.

I would love to know what you think; share your thoughts here.
